Four Ways to Stay Hydrated at Your Desk

Have you ever reached the end of your work day feeling tired, parched, eyes dry, and maybe just a *tad* irritable, only to realize you barely drank any water at all that day? It seems like a no-brainer to stay hydrated at work– especially if you’re at a desk where your water bottle is an arm’s reach away– but with hectic deadlines, meetings, and just the general stress that a job can bring, it can actually become a challenge to make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day

But don’t worry, we got you. Here are Saie’s top four tips for making sure you hydrate while you hustle.

1. Get a large reusable water bottle to keep at your desk

Using a reusable water bottle at work each day isn’t just better for the environment (y’all better not be on the plastic water bottle train anymore!) but it’s a helpful visual reminder to stop and sip throughout the day. It might sound silly, but keeping a reusable water bottle at your desk in a bright, eye-catching color will trigger you to grab and drink as the day passes. We recommend this BPA-free, glass bottle by Soma.

2. Make your water more exciting.

Some of you mega water-lovers out there might shriek at this, but every once in a while drinking water can feel a little...boring? When we have the water blues but we’re hellbent on getting the right amount of hydration in each day, we like to add some flare to our water by adding slices of lemon, lime, and cucumber to the mix. It’s refreshing, embodies a light, effervescent taste, and feels just a little like you’re at a day spa and not an office. :) We bring ours to work in a glass tupperware and this easy-to-carry one by Pyrex is a game changer.

3. Eat more fruits and veggies with a high water content

Another great way to make sure you’re staying hydrated at work is to snack on fruits and veggies that boast a high water content. Packing along snacks for work is more economical, and it ensures that you’re getting some added H2O into your daily intake. Celery, cucumber, lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupes, grapefruit, and tomatoes are just a handful of veggies and fruits known to be extra hydrating. We learned about eating our water from our friends at Sakara. They do amazing food delivery if you’re looking for someone to help!

4. Limit your intake of dehydrating drinks

It’s so easy to get lost in a busy work day and keep refilling your cup of coffee, but limiting or substituting dehydrating drinks like coffee can also be a big help if you’re trying to drink more water at work! Skip the coffee and opt for tea a few times a week, or, if coffee can’t be missed, start your day off with a cup of hot water and lemon before the first cup of the day. If you need extra incentive to help you cut your coffee habit, think about your complexion (vanity ftw), coffee dries out your skin big time.
